There are two ways to ground the ignition coil. By point or electronic systems and blocks. You should not ground the coil to anything else.

You will find that the coil has two electrical sides. The first is the ungrounded primary side since both positive and negative are connected to the rest of the ignition system.

The other will be grounded but connected to the secondary side of the tank. So to ground the coil you need to ground it to the tank. For this, if you want to avoid pain, you can use chrome.

Do motorcycle coils have to be grounded?

Likewise, motorcycle coils do not require electrical grounding. It does not need to be grounded to the frame or elsewhere.

Just by the way, the high voltage wire is also grounded, because, to get current from plug to plug, high voltage circuits use headers.

Motorcycle coils need hot ground to dissipate heat. It's best to use chrome as a heatsink, but paint can also be used as it will still serve as a heatsink. But it would be better if you avoided cork.

What happens if the ignition coil is not grounded

The high-pressure spark ignites the engine, and the ignition coil produces a high-pressure spark. The coil needs to be thermally grounded.

This is important for your engine as it will allow your engine to show heat. If it is not grounded, it can lead to spark problems and, ultimately, your engine will have a lot of hardships. Lack of grounding can also cause weak sparks.

You will always need to supply the coil with the proper voltage, and also a good ground inside your dist. Otherwise, you will have spark issues.

What is the meaning of ground coil?

As we know now, usually the coil is grounded through the wire harness. The mounting bosses on the coil do not make contact with the coil ground.

If you want to run a new ground wire for the coil, you will have to modify the wire harness or create an adapter.

If you do this, you can combine the ground wire into a ring terminal and install it into the unused threaded hole located above the spark plug in the front case.
